Frequently Asked Questions
· Brigitte Longueville ·
Brigitte has been practising yoga asanas and pranayama for over 34 years and has been practising vipassana meditation for 21 years.
She began her study of yoga when she was an enthusiastic 19 year old seeker and traveled to India to spend the next 6 years immersed in the study of yoga.
Her teachings of Restorative Alignment mirror her long journey as a student of international teachers and yogis from the famous South Indian region.
Brigitte offers her teachings with deep gratitude to her teachers in the Iyengar and Ashtanga tradition, as well as to Clive Sheridan, Gert van Leeuwen, David McAmmond, as well as her Vipassana teacher S.N. Goenka.
Pranayama, Critical Alignment, Yin Yoga and her ongoing practice of Vipassana meditation are some of the techniques that have shaped Brigitte as a student and teacher.
Her teachings and approach build on the teachings of her guides and at the same time on her own experience, exploration, study and practice.
As a result, she coined her own yoga style Restorative Alignment, and defines it as an opportunity to restore and rejuvenate the muscular and energetic capacity of the body before performing asana, so that the asana become more beneficial.
She obtained her first certificate after completing a 3-year teacher training at The Critical Alignment Institute of Yoga in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. This institute is world renowned for its work in Critical Alignment.
Brigitte is also certified as a teacher, and as a Yoga Alliance Teacher Trainer (E-RYT500 + YACEP), and most recently certified as a Yin yoga teacher.
Currently Brigitte is teaching retreats, continuing education programs and teacher trainings at Solstice Yoga Center in San Agustinillo, Oaxaca, Mexico. You can find upcoming events here.

· Restorative Alignment ·
The emotional response of past experiences is stored in our mind and body and blocks the flow of our energy. Restorative Alignment helps us to become aware of unnecessary tensions, teaching us to let go of negative experiences and physical contractions so the free flow of our energy is restored.
In this yoga practice, postures are held somewhat longer, allowing to quietly observe the arising physical and mental sensations. The use of various tools, such as the BackMitra®, help the practitioner to release tension and relax, allowing to transform the structure of the spine, strengthen the deeper muscles layers and improve mind-body coordination.
Read more about Restorative Alignment and discover its benefits for you as a yoga practitioner or teacher.
If you want to become a Restorative Alignment teacher you can participate in a teacher training. No particular requirements are needed, but it is recommended to have at least one year of experience practicing yoga in any style. For this teacher training previous experience is not the most important thing, but a positive attitude and passion towards learning new techniques.
Yes, to use it you’ll need to complete one of Solstice Yoga Centers’ certification courses.
